The focus of the LGC Alexandria site is the development, manufacturing and servicing of laboratory instrumentation and consumables with strategic plans in place to establish this site as a North America Center of Excellence. Products like the Array Tape® Platform, which includes the Nexar® and IntelliQube® systems that enable PCR reactions in the Array Tape consumable, are the featured products at the Alexandria site today. LGC's headquarters are in London and the company employs over 2,400 people, operating out of 22 countries worldwide. The Genomics division, which LGC Douglas Scientific is a part of, has a network of nine manufacturing facilities and three service labs and serves customers across a number of markets including pharmaceuticals, agricultural biotechnology, diagnostics, food safety, environment, government and academia.
With a history dating back to 1842, LGC has been home to the UK Government Chemist for more than 100 years and is the designated UK National Measurement Institute for chemical and bio measurement. LGC was privatized in 1996, and is now owned by funds affiliated with KKR.
